The Washington Redskins overcame a 9-0 deficit to build a 31-12 lead over the Minnesota Vikings early in the 4th quarter and looked to be in total control, but then the real Redskins defense showed up and did their best to crash the party.
The Vikings mounted a furious rally and cut the Redskins lead to 31-26 with 3:36 left. Then when they sacked RG3 on the first play for a 4-yard loss I couldn?t believe we were about to see another D.C. sports team collapse this weekend. After the Washington Nationals ripped our hearts out on Friday night the Redskins appeared to be on their way to doing the same thing Sunday evening, but RG3 wasn?t going to allow it to happen.
On the very next play RG3 raced 76 yards for the game clinching TD that put the Redskins up 38-26. I was pumped up when he had the yardage for the first down, but then he was able to get to the sideline and took it to the house to save the day.
I didn?t want to see the Vikings get the ball back with a chance to take the lead because the Redskins defensive unit can?t be trusted to stop anybody. Even after the RG3 TD the Vikings were able to get the ball down to the Redskins 1-yardline and RB Adrian Peterson had a TD nullified by a penalty with :32 seconds remaining.
The win improves the Redskins to 3-3 on the season and snaps an 8-game losing streak at home. It also allows them to pull ahead of the 2-3 Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East.
RG3 will be making his Broadway debut when the Redskins head north to play the 4-2 ?New York Giants?next week.
