Do You Have A College Degree And Can't Find A Job?

Does a college or university degree guarantee a good paying job right of school? Not these days; the economy is still suffering from the aftermath of the recession and jobs are scarce. Some recent graduates have to resort to working in low paying jobs in the service industry or in retail in order to pay their bills. So you have a degree and can't find a job? We've got a few suggestions to keep you busy until you land a job.

Why not consider volunteering? You can try volunteering at a local charity, food bank or perhaps even the Peace Corps? Another organization that you might want to consider is Teach For America; this organization recruits graduates for teaching positions. Volunteering is a great way to network with professionals, give back and it also looks great on your resume.

Have you always wanted to see the world and visit different countries? Now would be a good time to do so. It's easy to find a job teaching English in most foreign countries. It will be almost impossible to take a super long vacation once you find a job. You might also want to consider programs which allow you to study overseas for a semester.

Why not use this time to make yourself more competitive in the marketplace? More people are applying to graduate school than ever before; earning an advanced degree could be a good way to ride out the tough job market. Advanced degrees to consider include a MBA, a Law degree, Master degree and PhD. The number of students taking the LSAT's increased by 20% in 2010 compared with 2008. Many graduates are also attending MBA programs.

If you are unable to secure a permanent position, consider working as an intern. If you can't find an intern position you may want to even try offering your services for free. Working as an intern lets you find out what it's like to work a 9-5 job plus you can gain valuable experience in this manner.

Many individuals are turning to entrepreneurship during tough times. If you have a hobby or a business idea you've always wanted to explore; now is a prime opportunity to do so. Possibilities include consulting or perhaps even an online business; whatever you want to do. Many people never have the chance to start their own business. You can also create a job for yourself if you see an opportunity. This will allow you to gain entrepreneurial skills while earning money.
