Window Cleaning Tips

Direct sunlight makes the cleaning solution to dry quickly before you can wipe it off thus causing the streaks. A cloudy day is also the best time to vacuum the window sills and frames.

Professional window cleaners prefer to use clear and clean water when cleaning windows. In some cases where the windows are very dirty, they can add a little vinegar in the water to make a perfect window cleaning solution. When cleaning your own windows, make sure you use vertical strokes on the outside and horizontal strikes on the inside so that you know which side the streaks are on. After applying the strokes on both sides of the window, you can use old newspapers to wipe clean any remaining residue. Rutted aged newspapers work well as pricey paper towels.

Stubborn stains can also be removed by applying a little alcohol on the stain and then wiping gently with an old newspaper or paper towel. Wear gloves when cleaning very dirty and stained windows to avoid getting any stains or infections on your hands. Make sure to dust off the windows and sills before cleaning, as a mixture of water and dust will create mud. However, dusting off should only apply to windows that are exposed to high traffic areas. Wash the windows with clean water and use a squeegee to wipe clean any remaining residue. The advantage of using a squeegee is they do not leave lint behind if used appropriately.

A professional-type squeegee can be very pricey but it does a good job when it comes to cleaning windows.

You can get a professional-type squeegee at a janitorial store for $20. The cheaper ones that are available at your grocery store tend to malfunction once they get a scratch on the blade. Getting scratches on the blade means that you will have to replace your blade sooner rather than later. But just in case you are not able to get a squeegee, torn old newspaper can also do a good job without leaving any lint behind.

You can also use cotton in cleaning your windows. Make sure that the material you are going to use is 100% cotton. Dip the cotton in a cleaning solution and make sure to wring any excess water after every swipe. Do not clean your windows with cotton when they are exposed to direct sunlight as the cleaning solution tends to dry very fast in between your strokes thus leaving streaks.

If your house is big with many windows, cleaning them by yourself can be a tedious and a time consuming job. In this case, you will need the services of a professional window cleaner who are skilled in doing this kind of jobs and have the necessary tools.
