When people are looking for information online, they are most likely going to turn to search engines to help them find what they are looking for quickly and easily. That is the reason you need to focus on your website?s SEO, and link popularity can play a big role. Your website needs to be visible when potential customers do a search or you won?t make any money. It?s always best to go with an experienced SEO firm, but if you?re looking to brave the SEO field on your own, continue reading to learn how to increase your link popularity.
Link PopularityWhat does the phrase ?link popularity? even mean? A basic explanation of link popularity is that it is how search engines assign a rank to your website based on your SEO keywords. The rank that they assign to your website will determine if potential customers see your link when they do a search. How do you achieve link popularity?
Search engines have the power to assign rank and status to websites based on how many good quality links they have from similar websites, as built through their SEO campaign. They use a pretty basic formula that you need to understand. The ranking system was started by Google and is currently used across the board by the big search engines.
When you have a very popular keyword, you are going to have a difficult time getting the link popularity you want. If you don?t get your link popularity up, though, your website won?t show up in search engine results. It is possible to achieve link popularity if you know what the best ways to go about it even if you are using popular keywords.
Basic SEO ConceptsFirst, you have to understand some basic SEO concepts. One is that you cannot achieve link popularity with a large quantity of links. Quantity alone is not going to improve your website?s link popularity and it may actually bring it down if you aren?t careful. Utilizing link farms, which are websites that consist of only links and no actual content, are some SEO techniques that you need to avoid. If you use link farms to increase the number of links to your site, you will possibly be punished by search engines.
You also need to keep in mind that how good a website?s SEO setup is has a lot to do with its value as a link. If a potential link is a website you would not recommend to your clients, you should not create a link with that site. That makes your website look desperate to build links and lowers the value of your website. Having links that are not good quality will bring your link popularity down possibly to zero.
Directories for LinksThe first and most important thing you need to do to build your link popularity and increase your SEO ranking is to list your website in one of the big directories like ODP (open directory project) or Yahoo. Yahoo is a great place to list your site if you have an online business even though it costs close to 0 annually. It is a good investment. You can list personal websites for no cost but you have to put some time and energy into making sure the listing goes through. ODP allows both personal and business websites to place a listing for no cost at all but it also takes a lot of time and energy to make sure you actually get listed.
Your goal is to have your website listed at the top of the search engine results for your specific market and your SEO keywords. If you have a business that creates and exports leather goods from a small town in the US, for instance, avoid listings on ?small business in the US? directories. You want to take it further and figure out where there are specific directories that cater to your business like ?Midwest Leather Exporters?. This is going to give you access to the right customers and give you a foot in the door to grow your business.
Link ExchangesOnce you have submitted your website to the right directories and have the listings you need, you are ready to find good websites that you can link with to increase your link popularity. Look for websites that have something in common with yours so you can reach your target audience. It is a good idea to stay away from your competition and to look for websites that will be of interest to your customers. For example, a store that has products that go well with yours would be a good website to link with. When you create links with websites that have a similar focus to yours, your link popularity will go up. This add SEO benefit to both your website and the website you link with because you will both see an increase in link popularity.
You will come across website owners who refuse to exchange links with anyone so it may take some time to find ones that you can and want to link with. You can use Google to find possible websites to link with, and it?s best to find partners that are actively performing SEO so that they understand the reason to exchange links. Use keywords that your target audience would use in your search if they were looking for your website. You want to find good quality websites that are ranked highly themselves and that are not your competition. Look at the websites before you submit a link request to see how good their goods or services are, how good their website is, and how easy it is to navigate. Look at the links they already have to make sure they fit with your business.
After you locate websites you want to link to, you have to go about trying to win them over. Put a link to their website on your link page. That shows that you are interested and that you will reciprocate, which makes them more likely to do the same. Then, you should get in touch with the webmaster and the best way to do this is to send an email. Be sure your email will not get filtered to their junk or spam folder, though. You have to be concise and to the point and let them know you linked to their website. That way, they are going to want to read what you have to say.
Tell webmasters what you really like about their website and flatter them when possible. Let them know you have checked out their website and didn?t choose them at random. Tell them where they can find the link you put on your website so they can verify that it is there. Talk to them about the SEO benefits that both of you can get when you share links and increase your website traffic. Mention the importance of link popularity but be brief. Ask politely if they would consider reciprocating with a link to your website on their website.
You have to repeat the process with all the good quality websites you can locate that are not your direct competition. When you are done sending out these emails, go back to their websites often and look for a link to your website. If you don?t see anything in 30 days or so, send another flattering email. If 30 days later, you still don?t have a link on their website, move on. Take down their link from your website. If you feel you really need a link with a particular website, you could keep trying but don?t be pushy and always be polite.
Create a Long-term PlanCreate a plan to monitor your search engine ranking and record all other SEO activities so you will know when your link popularity goes up or down. You won?t see instant results. Increasing your website?s link popularity is hard work and very time consuming but you have to be willing to do the work if you want the SEO results. It is worth it to see your link popularity go up on search engines. You have to be sure your website is appealing and easy to navigate or you won?t get other websites willing to exchange links with you. Keep working on your link popularity and you will eventually see the results you are looking for.
